Origin of the Hua Clan#

3. Some members of the Hua family changed their surname from Fan to Hua during the Jin Dynasty. Fan Yongji changed his surname to Hua, and his descendants continued to use the Hua surname.
4. The Hua surname is also one of the surnames of the Hui ethnic group. According to the “China Hui Ethnic Group Dictionary,” the Hua surname is prevalent among the Hui people and is mainly found in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.

In the early Ming Dynasty, Hua family members from Shanxi were relocated to Shandong, Hebei, Henan, Anhui, and Jiangsu. Later, the Hua clan also spread to Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Liaoning. During the Qing Dynasty, the Hua clan expanded to the northeast regions of China and Taiwan. After the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods, the Hua clan gained significant prominence in Guizhou.

Notable People with the Hua Surname:

• Hua Mulan: A filial daughter who disguised herself as a man to join the army in place of her father. She is a renowned figure in Chinese history.
• Hua Runsheng: A government official from Shaowu, Fujian, who served during the Ming Dynasty. He was a successful scholar and served as the magistrate of Gutian and later as an educational official.

The Hua surname is widely distributed across China, with a high concentration in provinces such as Liaoning, where it accounts for approximately 69% of the Han Chinese with the Hua surname nationwide. Descendants of the Hua clan from Hongdong County, Shanxi, have migrated to various regions, including Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, and Anhui.
